Radnor Memorial Library Welcomes New Executive Director

Radnor Memorial Library welcomes Joyce Platfoot as its new Executive Director.

Platfoot has a BA from Mundelein College in Chicago and a Masters in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from Drexel University. She comes to RML with 14 years of public library experience most recently as a Reference Librarian at Ludington Library. She also worked at the Haverford Township Free Library in both Circulation and Reference, culminating in a position as the Manager of the Reference Department. Prior to her years in libraries, Platfoot worked in non-profits in the Chicago area.

Platfoot has a comprehensive knowledge of library operations and has helped to set departmental and library direction in each of her previous roles. Frequently focusing on improving processes and innovating collection offerings and adult services, she launched hotspot and pre-loaded eReader collections, taught tech classes for retirees in the early days of social media, and coordinated a volunteer force which delivered books to homebound residents. Platfoot also brings with her a passion for cultivating community relationships that she has focused on throughout her career.

Platfoot is active in the Pennsylvania Library Association where, among other things, she helped to pilot the association’s first mentorship program. She currently serves as Vice-Chair for the Southeast chapter of PaLA. She has also served as the President of the Parent Teacher Organization and as a Trustee on the Board of Directors at Friends School Haverford in Haverford, PA.

Bill Lawlor, the President of the Library’s Board of Trustees, said: “It’s our great fortune to have Joyce join us as our new Executive Director. Joyce has extensive experience and an outstanding reputation, and we believe she will be very popular with our library patrons and the entire Radnor community. Joyce is the right person to see us through a challenging time right now and drive our strategic plan forward.”

Platfoot lives in Havertown with her husband, Jim Caccamo, Associate Dean of the College of Arts of Sciences at Saint Joseph’s University. Her college-aged son is currently a Drexel University Dragon.

Platfoot replaces Anny Laepple who is now the Assistant Director/District Consultant at Delaware County Libraries.
